An important component of an effective workplace Health and Safety program is the prevention of workplace injuries and/or illnesses. A strong safety culture, not only increases morale, but has a direct impact on Worker efficiency and productivity.
Workplace ergonomics involves the science and design of systems and processes and the individual role Workers play in the movement and handling of materials. A proactive ergonomic program is the key to reducing the risk factors that can lead to Musculoskeletal (MSD) and Lost-Time Injuries (LTI). Not only can this increase the quality of life of Workers and strengthen Employee retention. Equally important, an effective ergonomic program can ultimately make the workplace safer and reduce costs associated with workplace incidents.
From individual Worker assessments and environmental system analysis, our customized services include:
Personalized evaluation and analysis of workplace processes and systems, including equipment, tools, work station design and layout. Using a comprehensive, step-by-step assessment process, the focus is on the identification of MSD hazards and the implementation of modified safe work practices to optimize comfort and performance.
Key to the prevention of workplace MSD's is the proper handling, movement and control of materials and products. This includes instruction on safe lifting techniques, materials handling and the implementation of team lifts and/or the use of lifting equipment.
Focusing on equipment and the life cycle or flow process of production, an ergonomic systems assessment includes a comprehensive review and analysis of all equipment and machinery, including design, positioning, worker safety, comfort and performance optimization.
Similar to an FAF, Fitness For Work may involve assessments by a qualified medical practitioner to determine if an Employee can safely do a specific job or task under the prescribed working conditions. It can also include the evaluation of Worker fitness, a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA), including functional abilities, as well as alcohol and/or substance abuse screening.
An integral part of an effective Health and Safety and ESRTW program, a FAF Assessment and Review is a comprehensive evaluation of a Worker's physical capabilities and functional limitations using defined testing metrics and procedures. Most often, done post-injury, an FAF aids Employers in evaluating a Worker's abilities as they relate to general or job-specific duties and responsibilities and, ultimately, assists in appropriate job placement and/or task assignment.
Not only is having all required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) a legal requirement in the workplace. But, ensuring that the equipment FITs the Worker properly is a fundamental component of workplace safety. This includes Mask Fit testing and Safety Harness fitting to ensure that all safety equipment works properly and is being worn or used in the manner designed to maximize the protection of the Worker.
