CPO-approved WAH Safety Awareness training, including

in-class Theory and Practical skills instruction.

Pursuant to the Occupational Health and Safety Awareness and Training Regulation and effective April 1, 2015, Employers are required by law to ensure that all Workers successfully complete an approved Working At Heights training program if they are working at a heights and using any of the following methods of fall protection: travel restraint systems, fall restricting systems, fall arrest systems, safety nets and work or safety belts.

Did You Know?

There is a two-year transition period for Workers who, prior to April 1, 2015, met the fall protection training requirements set out in subsection 26.2(1) of the Construction Projects Regulation. The deadline for Workers to complete an approved Working At Heights training program is April 1, 2017. Failure to do so, may result in enforcement by the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) which can include fines for both the Employers and Workers, as well as mandatory compliance or stop work orders.

TOTAL Safety Management offers convenient training courses each month at one of our Skills Training Centres or on-site at approved client locations. All courses are taught by qualified and certified instructors who have extensive knowledge and experience in Working At Heights. The 1 day (8hr) Working At Heights safety awareness training program includes both a Theory and Practical component and includes all required manuals and equipment. Participants must successfully complete a written Theory test and Practical Skills Demonstration(PSD). Students receive both a wall certificate and wallet card upon successful completion of the course and complimentary academic tracking and reminder service for mandatory re-certification training. The program includes:

Theory

  • roles, responsibilities and worker rights related to Working At Heights
  • hazard identification, assessment and controls
  • Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
  • warning methods and physical barriers
  • ladder safety awareness

Practical

  • practical demonstration on the proper set-up and use of Fall Protection equipment
  • barriers and other fixed equipment
  • equipment set-up for Travel Restraint, Fall Restricting and Fall Arrest systems
  • fixed and temporary anchor points
  • work access equipment and platforms
  • Emergency Response Plans (ERP) and rescue planning
  • Included in the course are all manuals and hand-outs, training equipment, as well as full academic tracking for participants. This includes a reminder service for mandatory re-currency training. Students receive both a wall certificate and wallet card.
