JHSC certification training

Pursuant to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and dependant on the number of workers, Employers are legally required to ensure that either a Health and Safety REP or Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) is established in all workplaces.  Further, it is the Employer's responsibility to ensure that workplace inspections and safety meetings are conducted on a regular basis as required by law.  In addition, Employers must also provide all required certification training for Health and Safety or JHSC members.

As a MOL-approved Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) Training Provider, TOTAL Safety Management offers full Health and Safety REP and JHSC Member Certification training.  Courses are conveniently scheduled to assist Employers with operational scheduling and budgeting and can be completed on a part-time basis including weekends.  Both Health and Safety REP and JHSC Certification training include in-class instruction, all required manuals and materials and participant evaluations.  Successful participants receive both a wall certificate and wallet card, as well as complimentary academic tracking and re-currency training reminder notification service.

PART 1: JHSC CERTIFICATION TRAINING

This three-day introductory training course provides new JHSC members with the fundamentals of workplace Health and Safety as required under the OHSA.  This includes examination of the Employer's legal duties and responsibilities, IRS, workers rights, JHSC authorities, work refusals and stoppages, as well as workplace inspection requirements.

PART 2: JHSC CERTIFICATION TRAINING

Part two of the JHSC certification process, this mandatory two-day course builds on the Part 1 training and focuses on hazard assessment, Employer recommendations and action plans, as well as MOL enforcement and incident investigations.  Through in-class instruction and hands-on, practical scenarios students learn how to conduct workplace hazard assessments and the application of safety controls.

PART 3: JHSC CERTIFICATION REFRESHER

A mandatory requirement under the OHSA, this one-day Refresher     re-certification provides certified JHSC members with a comprehensive review of their duties and responsibilities, including new Legislation and/or updates, MOL enforcement and updated safe work procedures.

HEALTH and SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE CERTIFICATION

This three-day certification course provides Health and Safety Reps with basic workplace Health and Safety training, including the fundamental of workplace safety inspections, the Employer's legal duties and responsibilities, IRS, workers rights, HS Rep authorities, work refusals, as well as the basics of hazard assessment, incident investigation and MOL enforcement.

JHSC COMMITTEE MEETINGS

Pursuant to the OHSA, the JHSC is required to meet on a regular basis and conduct workplace safety inspections.  TOTAL Safety Management can provide assistance by hosting inaugural JHSC meetings and supporting members as they become familiar with their roles and responsibilities, including workplace inspections, committee co-ordination and mandatory record keeping.

JHSC COMMITTEE DOCUMENTATION

An important part of the duties and responsibilities of a Health and Safety Rep or JHSC is document development and management.  TOTAL's experienced Health and Safety Co-ordinators can assist in the development of all required supporting materials and documentation, including Terms of Reference, Agenda, Minutes, Hazard Analysis and Employer Recommendation forms.
